Introduction

The Mast and Tower Safety Group (MATS), incollaboration with EUSR, 3 day Tower Climb and Rescue scheme is designed for new climbers coming into the telecoms industry. The course framework will provide delegates with the key information and practical training to work safely at height and gain access to major telecoms tower sites.

Upon successfully completing the programme, delegates will qualify for registration on the Energy, Utility and Skills Register (EUSR) for Basic Tower Climbing & Rescue; a unique ID No. and card will be provided.

This Initial MATS / EUSR Tower Climber & Rescue scheme is designed for industry professionals working at height on high structures wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and require rescue status in line with 2005 work at height regulations. The course uses PowerPoint presentations, discussions on legislation related to working at height, followed by hands on PPE inspection. Delegates will be taught and assessed on practical elements of ladder and open structure climbing on a tower and the use of fall arrest systems on a selection of structure types.

Unit 15 Demonstrating Climbing Techniques

Unit 16 Carrying Out a Rescue   

Includes written and practical assessments. Non UK Delegates are required to have a good standard of spoken and written English.

Delegates will receive course certification from Energy and Utility Skills in the form of a EUSR card accepted by the MAST Tower and Safety Group – all individuals will also be placed on the Energy& Utility Skills Register – accessible 24/7. Certification is valid for 12 months within which renewal can be gained by attending the MATS Tower Climb and Rescue Re-validation course. Failure to renew within the 12 month period means that delegates will have to complete the 3 day initial course again.


Delegates will need to bring outdoor clothing suitable for seasonal weather conditions. Climbing PPE can be provided if required. If delegates prefer to use their own PPE kit – PPE inspection records must be provided.
